Sochi 2014 General Director Dmitry Chernyshenko said Sochi’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games will be presented first, starting at 9 a.m. local time July 4 and will take one hour, including 45 minutes to present the bid itself.
The Sochi 2014 delegation arrived in Guatemala Sunday and Chernyshenko said, “Sochi is preparing plenty of surprises for the final presentation of its bid. Many of the internationally recognized Russian sports stars will join the delegation in Guatemala. Our presentation will impress members of the Olympic family, show our well-prepared bid at its best, and mirror the eager wish of Russia to play host to the Winter Olympic Games”.
“We once again affirm that the unique combination of natural factors is one of the numerous advantages, which may help Sochi to win the right to host the Winter Olympiad”, said Sochi Mayor Viktor Kolodyazhny.
He said, “Sochi hopes for winning the Olympic race. All Sochi residents are determined to prove to the world community that this country can host the top-level international tournaments. We want to present mankind with a great and unforgettable sports festival which will go down into the Olympic movement’s history. Sochi residents hope that the IOC will give this chance to their home city”.
According to the latest polls, more than 90 per cent of Russians know that the country wants to host the Winter Olympic Games, said Chernyshenko. “We are proud that over 78 per cent of Russians support the Sochi bid and over 50 per cent are sure that Russia will win it. Sochi is doing its best for playing host of the first-ever Winter Olympic Games in Russia. Sochi is a very serious and unique bid, and entire Russia hopes that we will win”.
Chernyshenko has said that Russia started building Olympic facilities in Sochi without waiting for a host city announcement. He said, “the fact that blueprints of the sports facilities in Sochi have just been drawn and the construction has not started is a key advantage of Russia. We can use the best and most advanced technologies and hire the best architects for constructing a worthy Olympic infrastructure”, he said.
