Sochi 2014 – New Agreement, Paralympic Countdown

It was announced Thursday by Sochi 2014 that, adding to the more than 50 regions of Russia that have been actively involved in preparations for the 2014 Winter Games including Moscow and the Krasnodar region, Sochi 2014 has concluded a working agreement with the Republic of Tatarstan as part of the organization and the staging of the World Students Games of 2013, and the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

According to the agreement and in preparation for the 2014 Games Sochi 2014 says it will benefit from the experience of working in partnership with the Republic of Tatarstan across 15 key areas, including sports, major sports event planning and management methodologies, intellectual property protection, sustainable development and technology.

Also the agreement envisages joint work for the development of the volunteer movement, the Games and the World Student Games legacy management, as well as the organization of events promoting the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, the Universiade and student sports.

Meanwhile, in anticipation of the celebration marking 1000 days until the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games, the organizing committee announces the launch of an innovative “Accessibility Map” project to help people with a disability find easily accessible locations where they can engage in Paralympic sports.

The map will also provide them with information about the elements that help to create barrier-free environments in their local area such as ramps, hand-rails and non-slip surfaces.

On June 11, 2011, 1000 days before the Paralympic Games, there will be numerous events and celebrations in Moscow, Sochi, and several other cities around the country, including master classes hosted by Paralympic athletes, competitions for children and their parents with the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games mascots, and sporting competitions and concerts.
