The first ever “Leisure Sport Fest”, hosted by Sochi’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, is taking place August 13 in Sochi.
The daylong event will be a combination of “Sport in Russia” competitions and a city-fest celebrating Olympic spirit with 21 different sport activities being held in Sochi’s Square of Arts.
Fifteen temporary venues will be constructed to house events including skateboarding, arm wrestling, checkers, table tennis, climbing and hiking. The top performers will be awarded Sochi 2014 medals, diplomas and t-shirts by the bid committee and the Federal Agency of Physical Culture and Sport.
Celebrity athletes will also participate in the event and the festival will close with a concert and a fireworks show to mark the occasion.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, Bid CEO said, “the Leisure Sport Fest will give the whole city an opportunity to feel that excitement and show just how much they want to host the 2014 Olympic Winter Games”.
Latest opinion polls show 63 per cent support Sochi’s 2014 bid, up 10 per cent from the last poll conducted in November of 2005.
