Sochi 2014 IOC Inspection Begins Tuesday

When members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission arrive in Sochi Sunday from Seoul they’ll have little time to rest. Itar-Tass reports that on Monday commission members will study documents behind closed doors and reporters won’t be admitted.

The inspection begins Tuesday when the commission will be presented with a general concept of staging the 2014 Games, and on Wednesday IOC experts will start inspecting projects under construction and future development sites for the Games.

Russian Minister for Economic Development and Trade German Gref said Saturday after reviewing sport installations to be shown to the IOC team, “Sochi is ready for the arrival of the IOC Evaluation Commission. Our task now is to show our strong aspects in the most convincing way”.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, director general of the bid said, “We hope that no hitches will pop up, since prospects of Sochi to win the right to host the Olympic Games will depend on smooth inspection”.

The program includes visits to the Krasnaya Polyana skiing centre, including ski jumps, a stadium for ski racing and biathlon, Alpine skiing, etc., and the Olympic Village.

Commission members will also inspect the Imereti Valley located on the Black Sea Coast where construction of an Olympic Park is planned.
