Sochi’s Mayor Viktor Kolodyazhny told journalists Friday that Sochi has a number of advantages over other bidders to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
He said, “first of all, we are building all sports facilities anew, which means that they will meet the 21st century requirements. Secondly Sochi can offer the most compact location of Olympic facilities. Thirdly the very idea of holding Winter Olympics in a subtropical area is unique”, he said.
Kolodyazhny added that Sochi’s development as an international resort will not stop if it fails the Olympic bid.
He said, “the Russian government has guaranteed that with a federal program, which stipulates 327 billion ruble investments. However, we are determined to win. The 22nd Summer Olympic Games were held in Moscow and it would be symbolic and natural to hold the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Russia”.
