Sochi 2014 bid officials have been on the road studying the organization of the “world’s largest and most prestigious international sports events”.
They attended the FIFA World Cup final in Berlin, and the Wimbledon Championships in London. This week they’re joining officials from the two other members of the 2014 short list, Salzburg and PyeongChang, in Vancouver to participate in the Torino 2006 Olympic Experience Debriefing.
The Sochi Bid team has been observing the planning and implementation of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. Officials say the city is in a similar coastal location as Sochi and will use the cluster approach being used in the 2010 Winter Games. A Sochi 2014 media release says the same strategy will be implemented in Sochi if the city hosts the 2014 Winter Games.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, CEO of Sochi 2014 said, “at the moment the Sochi 2014 bid team is on the journey of discovery intended to help us develop the best possible proposal for the organization and hosting of the 2014 Games. Our objective is to submit a well thought-out plan that meets all IOC requirements and addresses the needs of the athletes, the Olympic Family and all Games participants. We believe that our commitment to learning from others will put us in a strong position for success”.
