Sochi 2014 Gets More Support At Festival

Sochi’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games received 21,462 more votes this weekend at a festival in honour of Sochi’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Residents of all ages took part in the Olympic festivities, including sport tournaments, relay races, and roller and table hockey championships. The festival’s slogan “Come back” was a reference to Moscow hosting the 1980 Olympic Games and Sochi’s 2014 bid.

The festival highlighted Sochi’s commitment to the Paralympic Movement and featured competitions for athletes with disabilities as part of the daylong program. Former Olympic champions and medallists also participated in the event.

Sochi 2014 CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said about the local support, “already 89 per cent of Sochi residents are behind our bid to host the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and I hope that this number continues to grow. Hosting the Games in our city would leave a lasting legacy for our youth and the future of winter sports in our nation”.
