The CEO of Sochi 2014, Dmitry Chernyshenko, hopes to bring home good news Friday as Russia celebrates a national holiday and Sochi celebrates Olympic Day.
Speaking from Geneva, Switzerland in an exclusive interview with GamesBids.com, Chernyshenko was cautiously optimistic about his bid’s chances of making the 2014 Olympic bid shortlist.
“We hope that the IOC Executive Board finds the Sochi bid attractive but we can’t predict the IOC decision so we are just keeping our fingers crossed and are waiting for the dramatic moment tomorrow…when it will be announced who passed through the cut.”
The announcement will be made by IOC President Jacques Rogge from Lausanne, Switzerland at 1:00PM local time Thursday.
Meanwhile his team is already working on the next phase of its candidacy.
“We’re here with our supporters and experts and we’re discussing our bid book chapters because, we’re not overconfident, but, on our own risk we proceed to write our bid book despite the forthcoming results just to spend more time writing rather than wait for passing through the cut. So now we’ve done a lot of work together because we just met with our specialists who are working for us from [public relations firms] IMG, Helios and Weber Shandwick discussing our communication campaign because we want to be well prepared for after tomorrow.”
Chernyshenko said that he was satisfied with the assessment of GamesBids.com’s BidIndex that puts Sochi in second among the seven candidates.
“We’d like to be in that position, we will see tomorrow – who knows?”
