Dmitry Chernyshenko, General Director of Sochi 2014, told Itar-Tass that preparations for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games are ahead of schedule.
He said in an interview, “only six years are left until the grand sports event which will open in Sochi in 2014. Every day counts and I am glad to say that many plans have been fulfilled ahead of time.
“We follow the 2+4+1 formula developed by our London colleagues. Two years are assigned for making blueprints, four for building the sites, and a year for testing them”, said Chernyshenko.
He discussed the adoption of the Olympic law and the creation of a professional and highly effective management system, and the formation of the state corporation OlympStroy, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, and the Presidential Council for physical Education, Sports and Sochi Olympic Project that are all now underway.
Itar-Tass reports that construction is ongoing at major facilities, including a ski station and a lift at the Rosa Khutor mountain ski resort, the Karusel hotel that will host the media, and the Gazprom mountain ski resort.
This year Sochi 2014 is focussing on the protection of Olympic and Paralympic symbols from unauthorized users, and the drafting of a work plan for the Games, said Chernyshenko.
