Singapore’s bid document for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games will be delivered to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland two days ahead of the October 26 deadline.
Channel News Asia reports the bid document consists of 50 bid books, 25 CDs, a file containing photographs, maps and letters of guarantees from various ministries. It was sealed and placed into a delivery box and a two-man team – an official from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, and an operations manager from the courier company TNT Singapore – will leave for Lausanne early Wednesday to hand in the documents.
Parliamentary Secretary of Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister (MCYS) Teo Ser Luck said, “this document contains 15 different themes and the themes include major components like the Olympic Games Village, and how we would actually structure and organize it. It also includes off-course sports in terms of where the venues are, and also a very important component on the education and culture segment”.
He added, “I am confident that the bid committee has presented a compelling case to the IOC that includes innovation and exciting proposals, all of which will strengthen the Olympic movement and its ability to reach out to and engage young people across the world. With the bid book now on its way I urge all Singaporeans and companies to show their support in innovative ways”.
There are two additional sets of bid documents as a backup.
Melvin Yeo, Assistant Director of Sports Division at MCYS said, “the moment we touch down there will be a vehicle that will fetch us directly to the IOC headquarters where we will personally hand in the bid document”.
