Singapore 2010 launched a logo design competition Tuesday for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said, “everyone, Singaporeans as well as our friends overseas, can design a logo which they believe will best represent us, represent Singapore, represent the Olympic ideals, represent the welcome that we will present to the world”.
The logo competition is open to everyone regardless of residency or nationality, reports Channel News Asia. There are two age categories – the youth category is 18 years and under and an “open” category for everyone else. Only one submission through the Singapore 2010 website will be accepted.
There are three themes to the logo design, – the Singapore identity, the Olympic ideals and a youthful spirit. The competition ends Friday August 29.
Meanwhile it was announced Tuesday that five advisory committees have been set up to support the Singapore Youth Games. The five committees will cover Sports, Culture and Education, Community Outreach, Youth Engagement, and Business and Marketing.
The Sports Committee will provide advice on the Games sports program, and the Culture and Education Committee will help to plan and execute programs with schools and education-related agencies worldwide, all with the collaboration of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Information, Communication and the Arts, and Education ministries.
The Community Outreach Committee will advise Singapore 2010 in the areas of community affairs and local outreach, and the Youth Engagement Committee will provide perspectives on issues involving youth engagement and activities. The Business and Marketing Committee will advise in the areas of marketing, sales, branding and sponsorship.
The organizers are looking to raise S$40 million to S$50 million in sponsorships.
