Although the decision on who will host the 2008 Summer Games has not been made, several cities have announced they could be in the running for the 2012 Summer Games.
Among them are four Scandinavian cities, as announced by the mayor of Gothenburg, Goran Johansson. They are Gothenburg and Malmo Sweden, Oslo Norway and Copenhagen Denmark.
Mayor Johansson said “the major sports events are crossing borders these days. Western Scandinavia could pull its resources to stage the 2012 Olympic Games”.
Stockholm Sweden has also indicated that it could be a candidate to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.
And the eastern German city of Leipzig may also be in the running. A decision is expected next November by the German Olympic Committee (NOK).
