Although the 2012 Summer Olympic Games are still several years away, Moscow 2012 bid officials might have cause for concern.
An exhibition game in Russia next month between the NBA’s Utah Jazz and Russian champions CSKA was cancelled by the NBA Friday because of security concerns. The Utah Jazz was scheduled to play CSKA in Moscow on October 8.
CSKA said on their Web site that the NBA club had decided to called off next month’s pre-season game following “recent tragic events in Russia”.
CSKA president Alexander Gomelsky regretted the decision saying, “we’re very sorry to find out that the NBC chiefs have decided to cancel the game”. He said the Moscow government had given assurances for the safety of the American team. “Unfortunately, the NBA decided otherwise”.
