The New York Daily News reports that it has obtained a confidential memo in which the coalition fighting construction of the West Side stadium, a key element in New York’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, calls for using lawsuits as a tactic to delay the plan until “an anti-stadium mayor is elected”.
The newspaper says that the four-page memo also suggests protesting the International Olympic Committee’s inspection visit to New York February 21-24 with the message “Olympics Yes, Stadium No”.
The memo dated January 13, titled “How to stop the stadium” outlines a massive letter-writing campaign to Albany lawmakers and an effort to get as-yet-unaffiliated local political organizations on board.
New York city council has proposed building a $1.4 billion stadium on Manhattan’s far West Side – the city and state each contributing $300 million, and the Jets $800 million.
