San Francisco 2016 head Scott Givens said in China Thursday that the city would make all athletes feel at home if it won the bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. He said he believed the city has its own advantages – beauty, intimacy, readiness to host the Games, and their values complied with the Olympic Movement.
He called the city “very diverse, having every culture and every people. They all live together. I think that’s why some people think it is comfortable to live in the city. People feel at home over there”.
Last month San Francisco was named the best U.S. Destination City by Conde Nast Travelers’ Choice.
While admitting the city was small Givens said, “you are able to walk to many venues, to get on the mass transit and go to sporting competitions very close to your residence”. He said the athletes would stay in a brand new village right on the water with a beautiful view of the city.
He added “the San Franciscans love sports. We are a very healthy city. And we value the universality of bringing people together, friendship, and love of sport”.
He said the bid process will be difficult but the city has support from the residents. A survey showed that 77 per cent of residents think it is good for the city to host the Games, saying it’s still in the early stage of bidding.
