Today, the San Francisco 2012 Olympic Bid Committee released its executive summary, a 100-page report designed as the prime information resource for the 123 United States Olympic Committee (USOC) members, to the public. The report was originally to be posted on the bid’s Web site last week but the USOC asked for publication to be delayed while copies were first distributed to the USOC membership.
The document is designed as an overview of the bid and covers some of the key elements including venues, transportation, security and finances. It is geared directly towards voting members to highlight key points, leaving out much of the detail already considered by the site evaluation team in the full 500-page candidacy file.
The release is San Francisco’s latest move to show that they are competing openly and fairly with New York to earn the US nomination to bid for 2012. Earlier in the campaign, the bid committee released its entire bid book online – a first for the USOC bids.
“The Executive Summary is our best single opportunity before the USOC Board of Directors meeting to show that the San Francisco Bay Area is the best choice for U.S. Candidate for the 2012 Olympic Games and the best choice for the future of the United States Olympic Movement,” said Anne Cribbs, President & CEO of BASOC/San Francisco 2012 about the executive summary. “Aligned with the emerging agenda of the IOC, we’re the best bid for the athletes, the best bid to win internationally and the best bid to produce a surplus to fund the future of American sport.”
As part of the campaign process the bid committee is allowed only very minimal contact with the voters. The vote will take place November 2 in Colorado Springs.
