The San Francisco Business Times reports that the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC) has received more than $100,000 in cash and in-kind services from more than 20 Bay Area hotels, hospitality and corporate event companies. And there may be more to come from consortiums of legal firms and wineries.
BASOC spokesman Tony Winnicker said, “there’s a little competition going on, there’s a little peer pressure, but it lets people rally around the benefits, too”.
BASOC wants to raise $1.5 million this year, on top of the $2.5 million cash raised so far.
Bill Lazzaretti, a BASOC volunteer who focuses on fund raising, said if San Francisco becomes the U.S. candidate the hospitality firms have pledged another $5,000 each.
The United States Olympic Committee will be in Houston and San Francisco this weekend evaluating both bids. Washington and New York have already received a visit from the USOC team.
