When Salzburg delivers its bid book to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne Switzerland Friday, bid spokesman Michael Schuen told GamesBids.com “we will not do a ‘show’ as the IOC requested”.
The bid book will simply be handed over to the IOC by the bid committee’s director general, Dr. Egon Winkler, and the secretary general Dr. Robert Kaspar at noon on Friday.
This is in contrast to Vancouver 2010’s delivery of its bid book Thursday. Reports say the bid committee had planned for Vancouver’s mayor Larry Campbell and the bid corporation’s chairman Jack Poole to deliver its bid book in the company of an RCMP officer decked out in his full dress uniform. The three were to walk up the stairs of the IOC office at Chateau du Vidy to be greeted by officials of the bid secretariat.
Schuen told GamesBids.com that the 460-page bid book is divided in three volumes plus all the guarantees.
He said that about 150 experts worked for seven months to get it ready.
Schuen added that besides the 150 experts from Austria, the bid committee had advice from members of the Salt Lake City organizing committee. “Jerry Anderson, chief of the Salt Lake planning department and Lane Critchfield, financial director, were deeply involved in the whole process”, said Schuen.
Schuen said the Salzburg 2010 bid committee is confident that the second bid book will “level the quality of bid book number one. As you might know, the first bid book has got the highest grades in the report of the IOC experts”.
