Following the example of four other bids, now Salzburg has published its 2010 Olympic Bid Questionnaire Response online at www.salzburg-2010.com (large PDF document). This response that is required by the IOC is commonly referred to as the mini bid-book and outlines a bid’s initial candidacy plans. It answers specific questions in categories about motivation, venues, transportation, meteorology and more.
Berne, Andorra la Vella, Jaca and Pyeongchang have all released their responses in recent weeks – Harbin, Sarajevo and Vancouver are the only holdouts so far. According to bid officials, Vancouver will not publicly release their candidacy file in order to maintain a competitive advantage.
Salzburg’s document reveals that they plan to hold the 2010 games from Friday, January 29th to Sunday, February 14th. Polls indicate that 83% of local citizens believe holding the Games would be beneficial to the community while two-thirds are willing to endorse the bid outright.
The budget for Salzburg’s candidacy is a government guaranteed US$4.9 Million, and according to the document the government has “generally agreed” to underwrite the costs of organizing the Games. The Games concept brings together history and a tradition of excellence in winter sports in a compact and secure environment.
The IOC will announce a short list based on these questionnaire responses at the end of August, 2002.
