Salzburg Mayor Promises Salzburg Will Bid Again

One year after Salzburg lost its bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Heinz Schaden, Mayor of Salzburg, wrote International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge, announcing Salzburg’s interest in bidding for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Schaden said that by excluding Kitzbuhel and Ramsau, Salzburg’s bid will be more compact.

He also said there was an excellent infrastructure in place between Mozart and Amade, namely a high speed railroad system, expressway and highway.

An evaluation commission report is now being prepared.

According to the Mayor an official bid announcement will be made in 2005.

In the July 13 issue of the Austrian weekly magazine Sportwoche, Secretary General Heinz Jungwirth was asked when Austria would again host the Games. His answer was that Salzburg had an excellent chance for 2006 but unfortunately the wrong Austrian candidate was chosen. He added that Salzburg should try again, but without Kitzbuhel.
