Although the citizens of Salzburg want to know more details about the city’s bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, only the city’s municipal council will learn about it during a meeting being held “behind locked doors” for now.
Salzburg Mayor Heinz Schaden said the topic would be on the agenda of the next council meeting but he would not discuss the matter until after the meeting is held.
Helmut Huettinger, a spokesman for a citizens group, said he does not understand why interested citizens are excluded from such information.
The group wants to find out whether the estimated costs of holding the Games and the financial support of the bid sponsors are realistic.
There is concern that a public debate could endanger Salzburg’s bid.
