Helmut Huettinger, spokesman for a citizens committee concerned that Salzburg’s bid committee hasn’t released its bid to the public, said that should Salzburg win the bid for the 2010 Games and the Games aren’t profitable, the city would be responsible for the deficit.
Robert Kaspar, the director of Salzburg 2010, said the worst case scenario would be that the 2010 Games would create a 20 per cent deficit or about 100 million euro.
Huettinger said the city should not be liable for the 20 per cent deficit, and if it doesn’t get the backing of Austria’s bid committee, the bid must be regarded as a failed bid.
Discussions will be held next week between Austria’s Olympic committee and the city of Salzburg.
