Salt Lake has sold $170 million worth of tickets, $100,000 in sales a day and more than 85 per cent of the total for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Games.
Organizers say that corporate sponsors for the 2002 Games have returned five per cent of their tickets to the Games, but say it’s not unusual.
Salt Lake organizers are fast approaching their goal of $180 million in ticket sales – twice as much as at the 1998 Nagano Games. Salt Lake tickets cost more, and some of its venues offer more seating than Nagano’s.
Nagano sold 89 per cent of its tickets, while Lillehammer sold 87 per cent at the 1994 Winter Games.
