Salt Lake Olympic Torch Route Unveiled

Salt Lake City’s Olympic Torch route will cover 1,050 miles through the state; 900 Utah residents will carry the torch 13,500 miles by air, train, ship, dog sled, snowmobile, horse-drawn sleigh and other modes of transport including by foot.

Salt Lake Games head Mitt Romney did not elaborate how the torch will cross the Great Salt Lake.

After going across the U.S., the Olympic torch will enter Utah through Monument Valley, cross the Great Salt Lake and follow Brigham Young’s route into Salt Lake City. After Moab, Monument Valley, the Four Corners and the two national paarks, the torch will go through the cities of Hurricane and St. George on its first day.

On the second day it will travel through Cedar City, Richfield, Ephraim, Nephi and Provo. On day three it goes west to Tooele, then across the Great Salt Lake to northern Utah and Logan, and south to Ogden.

On the first day of the Olympics, February 8, it will make its way throught the mountains to Park City, then follow the route of the Mormon pioneers down Emigration Canyon into Salt Lake City’s Rice-Eccles Stadium for the opening ceremonies.

Romney has promised not to reveal the identity of the final torch bearer.
