Russia's Olympic Committee Head Resigns

Following Russia’s poor performance at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Games, news agencies report Wednesday that the head of Russia’s Olympic Committee has resigned.

Leonid Tyagachev has “signed his resignation declaration”, a spokesman for the Russian Olympic Committee was quoted by the Interfax news agency. The spokesman added, “I do not know the precise motivation but in any case it is likely that this is linked to the performance of the Russian team in Vancouver”.

Monday Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had called for Olympic officials in charge of preparing the athletes for the Olympics to resign after the country suffered its worst-ever performance at the 2010 Games.
