Russian President Delays Vancouver Trip After Hockey Loss

The Star reports Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, an avid hockey fan, who was supposed to arrive at the Vancouver Games either Friday or Saturday, has delayed his trip until the Closing Ceremony Sunday following Russia’s loss to Canada Wednesday.

Alexander Bardin, the Russian-Canadian who acts as the honorary consulate in Vancouver said, “I don’t know if he’s angry exactly but I think like most everyone, the mood is bad, very bad”.

He added that nobody knows if Medvedev’s decision to delay his visit is directly related to the Russian team’s poor showing against Canada in the quarter-finals of men’s hockey.

Bardin said everyone he’s talked to has their own thoughts about why Russia didn’t do better in the run for a medal. But he said everyone in Russia and in Vancouver who are part of the Russian delegation is feeling the same bleakness.
