The Russian women’s curling team is competing at the 2009 Harbin Winter Universiade as ambassadors for Sochi 2014’s Winter Olympic Games. Lyudmila Privivkova, skip of the Russian women’s curling team said, “we are delighted to be Sochi 2014 ambassadors. Our country has a great sporting history of which we are very proud, and which will be continued with an incredible Games in 2014. We hope to win gold for Sochi 2014 and Russia here in China”.
Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said, “the Sochi 2014 Games aims to connect sport with culture and education in line with the Olympic charter. This makes our presence and that of our young athletes at the Harbin Winter Universiade all the more important. I am confident that all will do an outstanding job of representing Russia, and that our new young ambassadors will be great assets to Sochi 2014”.
Sochi 2014 representatives also participated in the international Scientific Conference on sport education in Harbin, organized by the International Federation of University Sports (FISU) together with the Organizing Committee of the 2009 Harbin Winter Universiade.
Chernyshenko said, “widening horizons through access to educational, sporting and economic opportunities is a key element of Sochi 2014’s unprecedented legacy. Celebrating the achievements of young people here – and looking forward to those that will follow through Sochi 2014 and the Russian International Olympic University – have invigorated us as we continue our journey towards a memorable Games in 2014”.
