Russia To Bid For 2014 Winter Games

There are reports that Russia will be bidding to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Russian Olympic Committee President Leonid Tyagachev said an application for Sochi’s bid will be sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) before the July 28 deadline.

Tyagachev told journalists, “we will have a Russian Olympic Committee session in Moscow on July 26, where the Sochi mayor will present a concept for Sochi’s nomination for the competition to host the 2014 Winter Olympics”.

Boris Gryzlov, speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, said during a meeting with Tyagachev Wednesday that Russia has every chance of persuading the IOC to award the Games to Sochi.

Last week Moscow lost its bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games to London.
