Roots Canada says it’s finalizing a deal to open as many as 100 stores in China in time for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Marshall Myles, president of Roots, said joint-venture negotiations with a Hong Kong-based retailer should be completed soon to launch the chain over the next five years, starting with Beijing and Shanghai. He said the stores would average about 750 square feet and focus on branded apparel.
Myles added that Roots has landed a contract to outfit the British Olympic team for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
