Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, said he wants a smaller Olympics so the Games can eventually be held on all continents.
Rogge said, “we think that the Olympic Games have to be made smaller, made less costly so that they can be organized by all continents and subcontinents. Our dream is that the continents such as Africa or Latin America be able to organize the Olympic Games”.
As for a move to eliminate baseball from the Olympic program, Rogge told reporters that he listened to the International Baseball Federation’s proposals about cutting the Olympic baseball tournaments from 12 to five days.
Rogge said, “the baseball federation has made very interesting proposals about how to reduce the costs of the Games, and it seems to me to be a job well done”.
Aldo Notari, president of the federation, told The Associated Press “if the big leagues say they will send their best players to the Olympic Games in Beijing, the problem will be resolved”.
