Rogge Wants France To Bid For 2012

IOC president Jacques Rogge has urged France to bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

In an interview on the French Olympic Committee Web site, Rogge said, “history has proven that a second bid is often successful. Although it’s one of the best placed countries in the world to succeed, competition will be fierce. And even in Europe itself dossiers from Germany, England, Russia, Spain and Italy will without a doubt be of very high quality”.

About Paris’ failed 2008 bid, Rogge said, “it was technically excellent, but circumstances weren’t favourable”.

And he added, “it’s true that France hasn’t much representation in international federations, but that wasn’t the main reason for their failed bid. What really went against Paris was the fact that there would have been two consecutive Olympics in Europe”.
