Rogge To Initiate Changes In IOC

IOC President Jacques Rogge, is looking for some new accommodations.

Rogge plans to ask 2002 Salt Lake City head Romney if he could stay with the athletes in a room in the Olympic village at the Salt Lake Winter Games. He said he thinks it’s the best place to be in the Olympic Games.

He has also pledged to step up the fight against drugs in sports and wants to downsize the Olympics, saying they have lost their human face to commercial excess.

And he wants to set up a new IOC reform commission to see which of the rules brought in after the Salt Lake bid scandal need changing.

But as well as being a reformer, Rogge is still a politician. Talking about Moscow’s intention to bid for the 2012 Summer Games, Rogge said, “I know the strength of Russian sport and what they’re capable of in Moscow. Their bid will be a very strong one”.
