Rogge Has Advice For Vancouver’s 2010 Bid

In a CBC television interview with Brian Williams just prior to the Salt Lake Games opening ceremony, IOC president Jacques Rogge was asked about Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympic Bid. His advice was that the bid should get an “easy and fast connection between Vancouver and Whistler”.

Chances are many in Whistler watched the telecast on a newly-installed nine-foot by 12-foot jumbo TV screen mounted over the Bid Office entrance that will broadcast CBC coverage of the 2002 Winter Games.

B.C. government officials must have anticipated Rogge’s remarks. Just a few days ago the B.C. government announced it will unveil options to upgrade the Sea-to-Sky Highway, called the bid’s “Achilles heel”, by May.

Current support in Whistler for the 2010 is in the range of 65 to 75 per cent.
