International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge told Mundo Deportivo en el Circulo Ecuestre de Barcelona (Sports World of the Equestrian Circle of Barcelona) that Madrid should seize the moment and bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
He added that he would be happy and delighted if Madrid presented a bid, calling it a very strong candidacy.
But he said it was a decision that had to be made by “my friends of Madrid”.
Rogge said if Madrid waits until 2020 to bid things could change.
Madrid’s Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon will not announce Madrid’s candidacy until June 23 when the 2014 Winter Games short list is announced. Jaca Spain is one of the seven cities bidding for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
