Rising Tourism Boosts Sochi 2014 Bid

The Russian Ministry of Tourism announced that tourism is expected to climb to 10 million visitors for the Krasnodar region in 2006, giving Sochi’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games a boost.

Sochi reportedly lures more and more tourists every year because of its unique location, which offers both “Riviera-like beaches and dramatic mountain peaks”. The Krasnodar region has several unique natural parks, including the Sochi National Park with acres of pristine forests.

Four million tourists visited Sochi in 2006, up from three million the year before.

Sochi continues to develop its facilities and accommodation in order to meet the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) highest standards, reports Sochi 2014.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 bid CEO said, “I am so glad that more and more visitors are coming to discover the beauty of Sochi. My greatest wish is that our city will win the right to host the 2014 Olympic Winter Games so that the whole world can discover it too. Visitors to the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi would be guaranteed an unforgettable experience in our region”.
