Rio de Janeiro’s City Council has approved a bill authorizing Rio’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
According to the bill approved Tuesday Rio’s Mayor Cesar Maia and the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) will be in charge of launching the bid campaign.
It’s the third time the city has bid for the Summer Games – the last time was in 2003 when Rio bid for the 2012 Summer Games which was awarded to London.
