Although progress for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games has reportedly been slow, it appears that preparations are set to be fast-tracked, according to Paulo Alberto Soares, Ambassador to Singapore.
The Ambassador said Monday a body to oversee preparations for the 2016 Game has been set up, and reports say Brazil is spending billions of dollars to get ready for the Games.
Hernrique Meirelles, former president of Brazil’s central bank, is heading the Public Olympic Authority.
The Ambassador said, “it means there is no political interference. He (Meirelles) is completely independent from the federal government or the local municipality of Rio de Janeiro – very impartial, very cool. We have to recover, or try to make the two years that we have (been) a bit slow, to gain these two years in administration. What we need now is to speed up the speed with which we have to make certain decisions, define the projects and implement it”.
Channel News Asia reports Brazil is also learning from the organizers of the Beijing 2008 and the London 2012 Summer Games.
