The questionnaire response to the IOC from the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic bid is now available online.
Rio’s plans to hold the Olympic Games leverage the successful model used to host the 2007 Pan Am Games and include similar elements from the failed 2012 Olympic bid. The committee has chosen to stage the Games between August 5 and August 21 – during Brazil’s Winter – but offering ideal weather conditions for this sub-tropical climate.
The bid will be supported by public and private funding of USD $42 million through both the applicant and candidate stages. If awarded the Games the federal government has guaranteed to cover any cost over runs and all levels of government support the capital infrastructure upgrades required. Bid organizers expect Games revenues of over USD $750 million.
The bid plans use of of 19 existing venues in its four zone plan while seven new venues will be built and four temporary venues will be constructed. The four zone concept was used during the 2007 Pan Am Games.
An Ipsos Public Affairs poll showed that the bid has 78% local support and 60% national support.
