Reebok Canada is offering a $10,000 reward for the return of the stick and glove Sidney Crosby used in his winning goal at the Vancouver 2010 Games gold medal hockey game against the U.S. The Canadian Press reports no questions will be asked.
The equipment disappeared when Crosby threw his stick and ripped off his gloves to celebrate Canada’s victory over the United States.
Len Rhodes, vice president and general manager for Reebok Hockey CCM said, “the stick and glove are priceless. There’s absolutely no substitute for that exact stick and glove”. He has set up an e-mail hotline for tips on where the equipment is located, reports The Canadian Press.
Rhodes said Reebok will work with the authorities to trace Crosby’s gear, awarding a cash prize to the person who leads them to the now legendary pieces of Olympic history.
Rhodes added that Crosby’s black hockey stick has special markings that will help identify it.
He said once they get the equipment back they will turn it over to Sidney Crosby and let him decide what to do with it. Crosby can decide to keep the items in his trophy case or give them to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Hockey Canada has said all of the equipment from the game was collected and was being put into the players’ bags when it was noticed that Crosby’s stick and glove were missing.
Security officers are reviewing video showing people leaving the rink with sticks.
