Sochi 2014 CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko, presented a report Monday on the protection of Olympic and Paralympic Intellectual Property and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission visit at a meeting of the Presidium of the Presidential Council on Physical Culture and Sport, Elite Sport, and Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Preparations.
Chernyshenko told the meeting that Russia, as the proud hosts of the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, is responsible for protecting Olympic and Paralympic Intellectual Property (belonging to the IOC and IPC). He emphasized that the Olympic symbols and copyright (including but not limited to “Olympic Games” and “Sochi 2014”) should be protected in both Cyrillic and Latin. The Olympic and Paralympic Intellectual Property is protected in Russia by the Olympic law. He said Sochi 2014 has proposed measures for monitoring and controlling the usage of Olympic and Paralympic Intellectual Property.
Chernyshenko said, “the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games marketing programs are a means of bringing vitally important income to our country which has the honour of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The money gained from the implementation of marketing programs is later re-invested into sports across the country”.
Chernyshenko also discussed the IOC Coordination Commission’s visit to Sochi 2014 April 21-23 to ensure that Russia is meeting its obligations as the host of the 2014 Games.
The Presidential Council meeting that is taking place Tuesday will include reports on the progress of the construction programs for the Olympic facilities and the preparations for Russia’s winter athletes for Sochi 2014.
