Record For Turin 2006 – Tallest Cauldron

Turin 2006 organizers said that the Turin Winter Games can already boast a record for the Games – the tallest cauldron. The cauldron is 57 metres high, equivalent to a 20-storey building, and cost 1.8 million euros.

The structure is made up of five white tubes representing the “spirit of the Olympics”. The tubes twist at the top and contain a methane gas-powered flame that is expected to rise about four metres and extend above the city’s new Olympic stadium.

Francesco Lovo, Mayor of Turin, said the plan is for the cauldron to stay put and it should become an integral part of city life.
