Members of DongSaMo, Korea’s winter sports support organization with branches in each of Korea’s provinces as well as Seoul, converged on PyeongChang Saturday for a two day rally for their favourite Winter Olympic bid city.
Members of the group come from all corners of Korea and vary in age, lifestyle and occupation but all have a common bond – a devotion to PyeongChang’s 2014 bid.
The organization now has 105,928 registered members and its activities have diversified due to the tremendous power of Korean netizens (short for Internet citizens) who drum up awareness and support for PyeongChang through diverse means such as e-mails, online essays, a Web site, live events, local rallies and promotional booths at community and business fairs, and sporting events.
An affiliate group was launched in Australia in June 2005 that now claims 200 members. Choi Hak Jin, leader of the Australian committee said, “we lost by a narrow margin of three votes in the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics, but we are now a strong candidate city for 2014”.
