PyeongChang 2014 Plans First “Ubiquitous” Games

The PyeongChang 2014 organizing committee says if it wins the bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games it will be committed to creating “ubiquitous” Games, using South Korea’s cutting edge information technology.

All information, including competition results and statistics, will be made available on mobile devices, which it says will raise information technology at the Games to an “unprecedented” level.

Members of the Olympic Family will also be able to access media, transport, accommodation and other information at all times. It will be possible to make reservations for tickets and accommodation, or to check on transport schedules while travelling.

Gangwon Province, where PyeongChang is located, is already developing the technology to support tourism and public administration in the region and visitors will benefit from foreign language services and real time weather reports, says a press release.

Kim Jin-sun, Governor of Gangwon Province and Executive President of PyeongChang 2014 said, “this winter season visitors to Gangwon Province have already experienced ubiquitous technology. If PyeongChang is awarded the 2014 Games we will take technology at the Games to an unprecedented level leading to greatly enhanced convenience and enjoyment both for those who attend the Games and for those who watch from afar”.
