PyeongChang 2014 Evaluation Off To A Good Start

Gangwon Governor Kim Jin-sun told reporters during a morning break on day one of the PyeongChang 2014 Olympic bid inspection by the IOC that things appeared to be going well.

“The mood was amiable and positive to our presentation” Kim explained.

On this first day of a four day visit, the IOC evaluation committee reviewed several technical themes of the bid in a closed door session.

The IOC asked for more information on a couple of themes including the environment.

In a welcoming message to the IOC delegation, President Roh Moo-hyun said “The Korean people speak with a single voice in expressing their hope to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Korean government is also providing unsparing support with firm resolve.

“If given an opportunity, I ensure you that PyeongChang will host the best Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in history.”

The bid was further buoyed today on news of an apparent successful conclusion to the six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program.

On Thursday the evaluation team will visit various venue sites including Alpensia – a winter sports park that is currently under construction and would include several sports facilities including bobsleigh and ski jumping, the Olympic Village, the Olympic Stadium, media centre and IOC member accomodations.
