Despite losing its bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the PyeongChang 2014 bid committee issued a press release saying it has declared its ongoing commitment to the Olympic Movement and to expanding winter sports in Asia.

Han Seung-soo, Chairman of the bid committee said they are “desperately disappointed but we did everything we could and we should be proud of our efforts”. He thanked the IOC for the opportunity to participate in the bid process and congratulated Sochi, wishing them “tremendous success in hosting the Games in 2014”.

They also “commend Salzburg for their very good campaign”.

Kim Jin-sun, Governor of Gangwon Province and Executive President of the bid committee said “with Alpensia Resort under construction, PyeongChang will soon have world-class facilities across a wide range of winter sports. We look forward to welcoming increasing numbers of visitors in the years to come and to helping winter sport to expand in Asia”.

The bid committee said as part of PyeongChang’s commitment to the Olympic Movement the Dream Program will continue until 2010, “providing opportunities for young people to participate in winter sports who would not otherwise have the chance to do so”.
