Now that all the applications for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games have been submitted, PyeongChang South Korea, one of the seven cities bidding for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, has denied rumours that the city is planning to co-host the event with North Korea.
The Korea Times reports that according to a recent press release PyeongChang 2014 announced it was unlikely it will share hosting the Winter Games with its North Korean counterpart due to technical and practical reasons.
But both the city of PyeongChang and the bid committee are making an effort to operate various related programs available to the two Koreas, reports the newspaper.
Han Seung-soo, President of PyeongChang 2014 said, “we are doing our best to achieve the long-awaited goal of hosting the 2014 Games. We will also make sure that we will abide by the IOC regulations in a true and fair-play spirit”.
“This time it will be PyeongChang and we won’t have a second failure,” said Kim Jin-sun, Kangwon Province Governor. PyeongChang narrowly lost to Vancouver in its bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
“There is no easy contender in all the candidate cities and all of them are located in countries with advantages in winter sports. However, it is a cherished desire of all the Korean people and we are doing things like we are starting all over again”.
