Yonhap News reports that North Korea is to send a letter to Jacques Rogge, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to show its support for PyeongChang’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, a South Korean official said Wednesday.

The official said that Moon Jae-dok, head of North Korea’s Olympic Committee, plans to send the letter to the IOC head which reads, “we strongly support the holding of the 2014 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang”.

According to the official Moon said that the joint efforts by the two Koreas to have the 2014 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang will make a positive contribution to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile PyeongChang is also getting support from American golfer Michelle Wie who has accepted an invitation to become an Honorary Ambassador for PyeongChang’s 2014 bid.

Wie said after meeting with Han Seung-soo, head of the bid committee Tuesday, “I’m proud of my Korean heritage and also a big fan of winter sports. If the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are held in PyeongChang I’m sure that they will be a fantastic and memorable experience for the athletes, Olympic Family and spectators. I know that visitors to Korea are always made to feel very welcome”.
