Organizers of Pyeongchang’s bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games will designate hub airports at selected major international cities and prepare special chartered flights for the athletes and officials so they can fly directly into Yangyan International Airport near Pyeongchang.
The Olympic venues and facilities will be carefully laid out along a Gangwon Winter Sports Belt, and will be within a five to 10-minute drive off the highway. Shuttle buses will run frequently, making every venue accessible within an hour’s drive.
As for accommodation, reports say the area offers a wide range of facilities, including hotels, condominiums, pensions and lodges at reasonable prices, making it possible to house the members of the Olympic Family and spectators attend the 2010 Games.
Eighty thousand rooms are available, excluding 16,000 rooms in facilities now under construction or ready for groundbreaking. Athletes’ families will be offered accommodation through a unique homestay program.
The Pyeongchang 2010 bid committee says it is working closely with local, provincial and central governments. The committee expects to spend an estimated 410 million won ($341 million) to construction remaining facilities, which includes 46.8 billion won ($39 million) finances by private companies.
