As part of its bid promotion, fifteen members of the Pyeongchang 2010 Winter Olympic Bid Committee, including it’s chairman and the Governor of Gangwon Province, will be visiting the South American Sports Organization General Assembly in Buenos Aires, Argentina between April 6 and 9.
Fifteen South American nations and four International Olympic Committee (IOC) members will attend the general assembly.
Each candidate city is allowed a 15-minute presentation and a promotional booth.
The committee will be bringing with it promotional material in Spanish and English and is hoping to publicize its bid through local media interviews and special reports.
At the promotional booth the group will be handing out souvenirs, brochures and pamphlets, and there will be regular video presentations to increase awareness of Pyeongchang’s 2010 bid.
Meanwhile back at home the Gangwon Diaspora walk took place in Seoul on Sunday. About 2,000 diasporas were expected to attend the five km walk to publicize Pyeongchang’s 2010 bid.
And on Monday a group of citizens and voluntary workers devoted to Pyeongchang’s bid will attend a seminar at the Korea Press Center in Seoul.
Lee Jong-hoon, chairman of the Citizens’ Union for PyeongChang Winter Olympics said, “there could be many gray areas that remain beyond the power of the government but should be resolved immediately. This is where we citizens should step in to share the cause”.
Yoon Suk-hoon, a Korea Olympic Committee official, will provide an overview of the bid and discuss its chances and challenges.
University professor Ahn Min-seok will look into the subject from the political perspective of the two Koreas’ peaceful reunification.
The seminar will also tackle hosting the Olympics as a powerful impetus to both regional and national economies.
According to research conducted by the Korean government, Pyeongchang hosting the 2010 Games would trigger facility investment, nationwide consumption and demand worth an added value of 5.12 trillion won, and create 136,000 new jobs.
