Kim Jin-sun, the executive president of Pyeongchang 2010, said he is concerned about negative campaigns being run by Pyeongchang’s competitors for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
He told The Korea Times, “I deeply regret a recent sign or tendency that some of those vying for the hosting rights are negatively approaching Pyeonchang’s bidding efforts”.
According to the newspaper, one recent media report claimed that Pyeongchang needs to improve its telecommunications infrastructure. In reality, South Korea has one of the top broadband Internet using rates and its mobile communication network is also one of the most advanced in the world.
Although he didn’t name names, Kim said he hoped all the bid cities can carry on a friendly competition, focusing instead on each bid city’s merits.
“I think the competition between bid cities should be based on the Olympic spirit of fair play. I have tried not to point out the weak points of others, while expressing our vision, merits and strong will to host the Games,” said Kim, who is also the Governor of Gangwon Province where Pyeongchang is located.
